A seasoned humanitarian and development professional with over a decade of leadership experience in program management, emergency response, and organizational strategy across East and Central Africa.

Abdirashid is a certified Household Economy Approach (HEA) Practitioner with deep expertise in food security and livelihoods analysis, particularly in the Horn of Africa. He has a strong track record in conducting vulnerability assessments and generating livelihood-based evidence to inform effective, context-driven humanitarian responses.

He has held several senior leadership roles with Save the Children, including serving as Interim Humanitarian Director (June 2022 – March 2023). In this role, he led the development of humanitarian strategies, oversaw large-scale emergency response operations, managed substantial program budgets, and coordinated high-level stakeholder engagement.

Previously, he served as Head of Programme Implementation in South Sudan, where he managed multi-state operations and ensured high-quality program delivery, compliance, and reporting. He also worked as Area Field Manager for the Refugee Response Programme in Tanzania, leading operations in the Kigoma region, overseeing multi-sectoral grants, and strengthening engagement with donors and government counterparts.

He brings strong expertise in humanitarian coordination, program design and delivery, stakeholder engagement, and organizational leadership, with a consistent focus on delivering impactful, high-quality interventions in complex and challenging environments.
